From Pilot to Product: A Reusable National Training Package for Agile Leadership in Digital Research Technical Professionals

This growth project builds on a pilot Agile leadership training for dRTPs, currently being delivered across multiple institutions. The pilot has generated strong demand, with 73 applications across two recruitment rounds, with registrations still open at the time.

While initially designed within UCL and N8 to support a structured cross-institutional pilot, engagement has extended beyond these networks, demonstrating broader relevance across the UK dRTP community.

• Round 1: focuses on workshops using existing Agile training materials and evaluating participant experience. This is producing a validated high-level training outline (module sequence, topics, and learning progression), rather than a full training package. This outline is being shared with DRIFT to inform refinement of their Agile methodologies module.

• Round 2: focuses on transforming this validated outline into a complete, implementation-ready Carpentries-style (modular, lesson-based design principles) training package. This includes developing full teaching materials, structured session content, and facilitator guidance aligned to the outline, enabling independent delivery across institutions.

A key output is organiser-facing implementation guidance, including facilitation notes and delivery structures. The resulting open-access package will support scalable Agile leadership development for dRTPs, reduce duplication across institutions, and enable national reuse of a fully developed training package. This aligns with DisCouRSE priorities for open, sustainable training infrastructure.
